Governamentality, Hegemony, and the State

A series of transformations have developed in the current neoliberal state of capitalism relating to the State, liberal democracy, and the construction of hegemonies and modes of government of the population and individuals. This has led to a renewal of debates around emancipatory practices and strategies. Our collective aim is to stimulate reflection and discussion about the characteristics, trends and effects of these transformations and the challenges that they pose for critical thinkers and popular movements. This task is particularly focused on studying the impact of the neoliberal offensive that is currently unfolding, especially in reference to current modes of neoliberal subject formation, which are sometimes characterized by ‘fascistization’ (conformation to fascist ideals), the crumbling of democracy and privatization of the State, changes to the liberal matrix, and emerging forms of a state of exception (or a criminal-punitive state). Our collective is also focused on the past and present experiences and alternatives proposed by popular movements that are confronted by these processes.
