Socio-environmental Crisis and Dispossession
The deepening of neoliberalism that began in the 1970s has accelerated the deterioration of the socio-environmental sector. This deterioration has been caused in part by these factors, all of which we shall study.
1. The dismantling and plunder of the social welfare aspects of the state.
2. The commodification of areas of public life that had been held in common.
3. The reliance upon the extraction of raw materials for export.
4. The effects of climate change.
We aim to stimulate reflection on and to monitor these processes— especially specific policies, corporate initiatives, and strategies that are employed as part of current neoliberal offensive and its modes of governance that are linked to ‘green capitalism’. We also seek to study and disseminate alternative practices and programs developed by popular movements and critical thinkers, both today and in past decades that had been characterized by immense creativity.
